Chamber of Commerce.
William Mahone, the builder of the Norfolk and Petersburg Railroad, and his wife, Otelia, were traveling along the newly completed rails and began naming the railroad stations along the way. Being an avid reader, Otelia began to chose names from her books, among them Wakefield, Windsor and Waverley. As they went along they reached a station in Prince George County and could not agree on a name for this station. They finally agreed to disagree and coined the name of Disputanta in reference to their dispute over its name.
