Named after founder, Thomas Harrison. Harrisonburg was settled at the crossroads of an Indian path and the Spotswood trail in about 1739. His sons donated the land for the Rockingham County Courthouse in 1779.
During the Civil War, respected Confederate General Turner Ashby, fell in battle on June 6, 1862.

Endless Caverns

11 miles from town, this is Virginia's longest caverns' tour. See many stalactites, stalagmites, giant columns, flowstone and limestone pendants. The end to this cavern has yet to be discovered.
