Haymarket history:

Haymarket was built along an old Indian hunting path that later became the Old Carolina Road. It became a major route from Pennsylvania down into the Carolinas. Unfortunately, it was burned in 1862 by the Union troops as they came through. Since then, it has been rebuilt and many buildings restored to former stature. .
