Born in Royalton, Vermont. Conservationist, Naturalist, Businessman, Railroad Pioneer. Ownership of the Billings Farm, Woodstock VT. President: Northern Pacific Railroad, Woodstock Railway Company, Woodstock National Bank, University of Vermont Billings Library. First person to practice law & (first) Attorney General: State of California. Founder of University of California, Berkeley. Established Yosemite National Park. Owner: of the Historic Montgomery Block in San Francisco, CA. Billings, Montana named in his honor. Wrote & implemented the plan for the Transcontinental Railroad.
Franklin Noble Billings 1829 – 1894 "None knew him but to love him, None named him but to praise him." Born in Royalton, Vermont. A businessman both in San Francisco, California and Woodstock, Vermont. He …"sustained an enviable reputation for honorable methods and square dealing." President of the: Woodstock Railway Company, also, President of the Woodstock National Bank, and Gas Light Company, and Director of the Norman Williams Library and Woodstock Hotel Company. Managed his Frederick’s enterprises.

We hope to establish a large data base of information about the history of each city. Historical Societies are encouraged to open their own page on Key to the City for more extensive historical information.
