Birch Bay was named by English Captain George Vancouver because of the black birch trees which he saw all along the coast. It has a large tourist population during the summer months.

Birch Bay has the second largest heron rookery in Washington. Birch Bay has miles of wonderful beach for all types of water-related activities such as: clamming, swimming (when its warm enough for you), crabbing, sunning and playing in the sand.
