History & History Related Items Goldendale history: Founded by John Golden in the late 1800's. Goldendale is a farming community, mostly wheat and alfalfa are grown, but barley and other crops are also produced. Many families are second and third generation farmers. For this reason it is a town rich in history and with strong ties not only to family but also to the land. Goldendale attractions: Goldendale is the home of one of the highest-powered telescopes in the nation. It is accessible to the public at the Goldendale Observatory. Maryhill museum, an amazing piece of architecture, is within 15 miles of Goldendale and is a great day excursion for visitors to the town or residents who enjoy history and art. Approximately 10 miles South of Goldendale is a replica of the Stone Henge built by Sam Hill and dedicated in mid 1920's to the memory of the World War I dead from Kilckitat County. There is a Klickitat County museum in the Presby Mansion located at West Broadway and North Grant in Goldendale. The museum features historical memorabilia from Kiickitat County. Return to Index
