History & History Related Items

Richland history:

Back in 1944, Richland was chosen along with three other areas as a development site for the Atomic Bomb. The others were Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Argonne Laboratory in Chicago and Los Alamos, New Mexico. The small village of only 250 people was gradually transformed into a major center for technology. Not only was business attracted to the area, but several large government projects also came to Richland. Irrigation waters from the Grand Coulee Dam helped to bring vineyards and orchards to the area.
