History & History Related Items Franklin history: Franklin was formed from the Town of Kinnickinnic in 1838 and named for Patriot, Benjamin Franklin. The area was heavily forested with many animals locally. The Root River is nearby. Many of the early settlers resisted efforts to annex to Milwaukee desiring to remain their own entity, going so far as to hide to avoid the serving of the incorporation papers.
