This page tells about the founder, Alonzo Horton Hortonville was settled and founded by Alonzo Erastus Horton. He was born in Connecticut in 1813. He laid out his first plat for the Village on 5 November 1849. Others came, settling the area, buying land, building homes and helping the village to grow. Horton, meanwhile, was smitten with "gold fever," and sold everything to leave for the west and the fortune to be made in California.
