Facts about Fayette County, West Virginia
History:
Fayette County was formed on February 28, 1831 and named for the
Marquis de Lafayette. Most communities in the county were formed
as coal mine sites. The lumber industry was also a thriving part
of the economy through the years. Oak Hill is the largest city
in the county. The county seat is Fayetteville which was also
named for the Marquis de Lafayette.
