The climate for Green River is seasonal with all four seasons represented. Most of the yearly moisture comes in the form of snow rather than rain. There is an average of 244 days of sunshine each year. The area is usually invigorated by brisk winds in the afternoons each day. History & History Related Items Green River history: Green River was incorporated in 1868 before Wyoming was even a state. It was then located in the Dakota Territory. It was incorporated again in May, 1891 due to statehood. Green River began as a railroad town with the Union Pacific Railroad. It became a Divison Point on the railroad in 1872. In 1875, Green River became the county seat of Sweetwater County. A large depot was built with a shop and yard. The town was named for the Green River that goes through the city.
