Attractions

Opal (pronounced O-Pal) was incorporated as a town in 1914. It has had a population of up to 263 and is currently at 102. Recently, it became the first public water system in EPA Region 8 to install reverse osmosis water units in every home to comply with a mandatory compliance order for naturally occurring fluoride. There are no businesses in Opal except for home-run operations. Opal also is the largest natural gas hub in the continental United States and supplies natural gas to the mid-west and western United States.
