Geography
an area surrounded by mountains and rivers. The wind River Range of the Rocky Mountains is on the west. The Owl Creek Range is on the north. The Gas Hills and the Wind River are to the east and to the south is the Little Wind River and the South Pass over the Wind Rivers

mild. Because of the sheltering mountains to the west and north, Riverton has the mildest weather in Wyoming. There are general 347 days per year of sunshine. The growing season is approximately 139 days long.

The Indian reservation is the home of the Eastern Shoshone and the Northern Arapaho Indian tribes.
Riverton and the area has much history with famous people from the past, Chief Washakie, Jim Bridger and Sacajawea, having walked the area. The people of the area have always tried to blend the pioneer heritage with the native cultures, both Arapahoe and Shoshone Indians were in the area.
Long standing industry has been farming and ranching. In 1950's uranium and mining became the major employer from the Gas Hills mining area about 50 miles southeast.

The founding of Riverton
August 6, l906 from a ceded portion of the Wind River Indian Reservation.
Attractions
Riverton is a major gateway to Yellowstone National Park and Jackson Hole mountain area. Central Wyoming College is located here. It is a two year junior college. Riverton is served by United Airlines with a commuter service with four roundtrip flights to Denver, CO daily.
