named for Charlie "Dad" Worland, who was a stage station manager on the old Bridger Trail. Worland was first set up on the west side of the Big Horn River in 1906. When the railroad came, they set their tracks on the east side of the river. Because of the interest of the townspeople and leaders to gain from the railroads proximity, the community was moved the the east side of the river. The made the move during the winter. This time was chosen to help everyone move as they slid all their belongings across the frozen Big Horn River.
