History:

The county was created in 1875 when it was named for General George Crook of the Indian Wars. It originally included areas that are now Campbell and Weston Counties as well as Crook County. Sundance was named the county seat in 1885.

Lowest point in Wyoming is in Crook County at the Belle Fourche River where it leaves the state and enters South Dakota

Devils Tower National Monument or another Devils Tower Site- the first national monument in the United States, designated by President Teddy Roosevelt.

The Bearlodge Mountains, part of the Black Hills National Forest

Crook County Fair - held each year in July-August.

Keyhole State Park - includes one of the largest lakes in Wyoming. Both summer and winter recreation are available on the lake.
