The area residents are mostly Navajo. The region is known as the "Land of the Dineh." Dineh means the Navajo People.
Chinle is near the Canyon De Chelly National Monument which has many visitors each year.

The primary attractions of the monument are ruins of Indian villages built between 350 and 1300 AD at the base of sheer red cliffs and in canyon wall caves.
