Location
on the northeast slopes of the White Mountains, 221 miles northeast of Phoenix. Eagar is on U.S. 180, the direct link between I-40 and I-10, at its junction with U.S. 60. Alpine and Greer are both about 20 miles from Eagar and are known for their cross-country ski trails.

First known as Union in 1888, named to solidfy the many small settlements of the area, the name was changed to Eagar in 1892. Eagar was first settled in the late 1800's when John Thomas Eager and his brothers, Joel and William, and another family, the Robertson's, homesteaded in Round Valley. The town was incorporated in 1948.
