Glendale history: Glendale is an historic city. Over 100 years ago, the Glendale area was settled. A dam and canal allowed this otherwise barren and dry area to flourish with its rich soil. The railroad in the area helped it to maintain its economy . World War II brought many miliary personnel to train at Luke and Thunderbird fields. After the war, many of these same soldiers returned to the area they enjoyed during their training. What was once a predominant farming area gradually changed into a major urban community and one of the fastest growing cities in the country.
