Many of the mines are still in operation today. The "Old Dominion" is one of those that has been closed that was very famous in its day. Founded in 1876, Globe started out and remains a mining town. Along with Miami to the west, the area is known for a rich western heritage. Buildings here are unique in their craftsman style.
