along Highway 60, west of Globe in east-central Arizona

In the late 1800's, an early settler, Black Jack Newman, operated a copper mine and camp which he named "Mima" for his intended, Mima Tune. Over time, the name evolved into Miami which locals pronounce "MY-a-muh." Miami was incorporated in 1918 as a town.

Miami is often linked with Globe to the east. It is referred to as the gateway to Roosevelt Lake. Also associated with Miami is the Tonto National Monument, the Gila County Historical Museum and the San Carlos Apache Nation.
