San Luis was founded in 1930 when the U.S. Port of Entry was opened. It incorporated in 1979 and has had a large increase in population and business since that time. It has been one of the fastest growing communities in the county.

Attractions
San Luis, Sonora, Mexico is just across the border from San Luis. It is a city of over 200,000 residents, one of Mexico's fastest growing cities. There are shops, night clubs and other attractions in the border town.
The Colorado River is within a 30 minute drive from San Luis and features many recreational opportunities.
Nearby attractions include the old Territorial Prison, Fort Yuma, the historic 16th century Fort Thomas Mission, Laguna, Imperial and Morelos Dams and the California sand dunes.
