Youngtown average annual rainfall is 7.06 inches per year History & History Related Items Youngtown history: Youngtown was the country's first retirement community, set up in 1954. It was also the first of this type of community to incorporate in 1960. The area began as a dairy ranch. Developer, Ben Schleifer, bought the property and established the town as a retirement place with age restrictions for those who could live there. The age restriction was lifted in 1998 allowing all ages to live in Youngtown. The local historical society maintains a log cabin within the government complex, where the town history may be viewed along with other exhibits.
