History & History Related Items Angels history: Named for Henry or George Angel, local residents, Angels was created in 1848 and benefited from the gold rush. The town actually mostly burned down in 1855. When re-building occurred, more permanent buildings were erected. Gradually, the mines were closed until the last, the Gold Cliff shaft of the Utica Mining Company, closed in 1942. Here is a history page for Angels.
