History & History Related Items Kerman history: Early on, in the late 1800's, this community was known as Collis for Collis P. Huntington of Southern Pacific Railroad fame. The line came through town around 1891. In 1910, William G. Kerckhoff and Jacob Manson purchased a large piece of land here. The city was renamed for both men. At this time, both electricity and a water supply were opened in Kerman which allowed the community to grow. Though still mainly agricultural, more industry and business is coming to Kerman.
