History & History Related Items

Once known as Sauzal Redondo which means "around the willow salt flat," Redondo Beach may have been named from this description, though officials have no "official naming story" for the city. It was once part of the huge 43,000 acre Dominguez Rancho. The area was settled in 1876; in 1885, the land was purchased by a development company and the community was laid out.
