Referred to as Sandy Beach long ago, the area began as a 250 acre tract at the headj of the St. Martin's River. Soon a gristmill and sawmill were built on this spot. Sampson Selby came here and opened a store. He began accepting packages for delivery in 1842 at his store, Selbyville. From 1918 until the late 1930's, Selbyville was the main supplier of strawberries for the entire east coast!
