History & History Related Items Brooksville history: Here is a history page for Brooksville created by Moton Elementary School students. Settled in 1845, Brooksville was first known as Melendez. Later, it was merged with a neighboring community, Pierceville. It wasn't until 1856 that the town was finally named Brooksville to honor Preston Brooks. Brooks was a South Carolina Congressman who was a supporter of State Rights. Brooksville was also the county seat at that time. It was officially incorporated on 13 October 1880.
