Started with the Etoniah Drainage Commission and the old Georgia-Southern Railroad. There were people here before that. Florahome was almost surrounded by water. The Etoniah Company started digging in 1899 and the train came through. The area drained was called "Wahoo Prairie." Disney made a movie here and called it "the Wahoo Bobcat." Also, parts of another movie were made here. It was called "The Naked Jungle," and had Charleton Heston in it. They blew up a bridge which crossed the canal that the Etoniah people dug. The town was named after Flora Sipprell. Folks started saying, "let's go to Flora's home." It ended up being called FLORAHOME. Flora Sipprell died July 15, 1948. Her residence on Sipprell Road was destroyed by fire in the 1920s. We are a small town. Same people have been here for years. Weaver, Sturdivants, Varnes, Carnes and Sipprell's. Florahome's centennial was in 1999 with a large community celebration on 2 October 1999.

Attractions
Florahome is not a very big town. We have a store and a Post Office. Not a whole lot goes on here which is just fine with the local genre. They would not have it any other way. There are beautiful oaks and magnolias. You also have some great peat land. Most go to Palatka to work and shop. Palatka is also the County Seat. Putnam is one of the larger Counties in Florida, but has few people. This makes it nice for fishing, swimming and all sorts of family events!
