Lutz Arts and Crafts Festival
The Lutz-Land O' Lakes Woman's Club (member of the Florida Federation of Women's Clubs and the General Federation of Woman's Clubs) will present its Annual Lutz Arts and Crafts Festival
This festival began on the grounds of the Historic Old Lutz School Building. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and is Hillsborough County's First Historic Landmark. The show was started by Cathy Donovan, Nan Groll, and Phyllis Hoedt. When Cathy had to drop out, the festival was turned over to the women's club. The location was moved to Lutz-Lake Fern Road and U. S. Highway # 41 due to a need for additional space. Lea Griffin joined Phyllis Hoedt as Co-chairmen. The show was located in Bullard Park and Lutz Memorial park at the address stated. A highway widening project that destroyed many of our historic buildings also reduced the parking area, so the festival had to move a few miles west and south to Hillsborough County's Lake Park, south of Van Dyke Road and west of Dale Mabry Highway. In 1997 Shirley Simmons joined Phyllis as Co-chairmen. The park consists of about 500 acres of mostly natural woodlands and two lakes. There is ample parking for the 35,000 annual visitors who attend the two days. A number of food venders provide sufficient food and beverages for the crowd. At this time about 225 artists and craftsmen have signed-up effectively filling the show even before its deadline. We invite you to visit our unusually good festival and while your here look over our un-incorporated community and visit with people who care about their community. Years ago our citrus groves froze-out and much land was developed into homesites by out -of -town money seekers. By the way ... admission is free...to our show and to our community
