Explorer, Hernando DeSoto and his scout, Juan Anasco, came through here in 1539, using their "longboat" as it went through the north pass. Much later, in 1891, Thomas Mann settled here on the north end receiving a homestead grant of 144 acres. One of his sons also received a grant of 144 acres on the south side.
