Edwards' Colonnades Beach Hotel, which attracted the likes of Jackie Gleason, Liz Taylor and Perry Como, closed in 1987 and was razed two years later. a 313-unit eight story spanish style Marriott resort condominium is being now built in the same location, and will cover over 20 acres. The Marriott will spend over 250,000 on landscaping for Ocean Ave, the town's main street. Palm Beach Shores has the 9th lowest crime rate in palm beach county (out of 34 towns). The town has a very strong neighborhood feel with an excellent police force protecting its vacationers ad citizens. Its neighboring town has the worst crime rate in palm beach county.
