Westchase was approved by the Hillsborough County Planning and Zoning Commission, as a PUD (Planned Unit Development) in 1991. Westchase was platted on 2000 acres. The first design plan has undergone some revisions, but has remained true to the original concept. Westchase was conceived as a family-friendly community with broad appeal, containing a variety of home styles in a wide range of prices. Incorporated in the original design, and continuing today are large conservation and wetlands areas, strategically placed commercial areas, and some mixed use (residential and commercial) areas. Westchase today has apartments, town homes, villas, and many styles of detached single family homes. The planned residential units in Westchase are now almost all constructed. Only three areas on the eastern border of the community contain land where residences are either under construction or in pre-construction phases. The commercial areas on the north and northwest border, and the retail/ professional area near its center, have long been part of the Westchase overall plan. Some of these areas are fully developed, some nearing completion, and some are yet to be developed. Westchase Golf Club
The club opened in 1992 and has become a premier golf facility. The course is 6,710 yards with a Par-72 and was designed by Lloyd Clifton. It is a beautiful course taking in the natural setting with woods, lakes and residential areas.

Westchase City Government

Westchase is an unincorporated area of Hillsborough County. It is governed by at least two groups - the Westchase Community Association (WCA) and the Community Development District (CDD).

Community Development Districts
These districts are governmental entities which maintain the common areas of planned communities. There are two districts in Westchase, Westchase Community Development District (CDD) and the Westchase East Community Development District (CDD-East). These districts operation separately but traditionally pool their resources to divide up the expenses of maintaining and operating the common areas of the community.
