History & History Related Items Windermere history: The historic town hall has been completely refurbished and many local functions from weddings to social club meetings now take place in its turn of the century interior. Many streets in the old downtown area are still paved with dirt and pine straw but the residents want to keep them that way. A few small businesses form the downtown business district but there will never be room for rampant commercialism. The newer residential communities built on the towns doorsteps are some of the most expensive in the country. They are home to national sports figures, large corporation CEO's, and foreign dignitaries. Windermere attractions: Everything changes with time but the little town of Windermere has remained pretty much the same. The Town Council has restricted growth and commercialism and Winderemere remains the little Florida citrus town plopped down amid a beautiful chain of lakes. Return to Index
