History & History Related Items Rockville history: Rockville was founded in the fall of 1823 and became the permanent county seat of Parke County the next year in 1824. Up until that time the court had been held in Roseville and Armiesburg. The first settlers of the community were Arthur Patterson, Andrew Ray, Aaron Hand and James B. McCall. It is said that the name came from the large numbers of rocks or boulders here. The name was dedicated by breaking a bottle of whiskey on one of the boulders.
