Greenbelt history: Greenbelt, as we now know it, was created in the 1930's as part of President Roosevelt's New Deal. Greenbelt was the first of three "green towns" built by Rexford Guy Tugwell's Resettlement Administration. What has always made Greenbelt so unique has been its high level of resident involvement. That this spirit continues today is evidenced by the many activities that take place every day in this wonderful community.
