Hancock history:

Though the first settlers arrived in 1732 from Pennsylvania, the offical founder did not arrive until 1749. Hancock was named for Joseph Hancock, Jr., who ferried people and goods across the Potomac River. Hancock is located at the narrowest point in the state.
