Adopted by the Legislature of 1909
The State Coat of Arms lies on a blue field, the same blue as the US flag. The North Star represents the state motto, Dirigo, which means I Direct. A moose lies under a pine tree and a farmer and a seaman represent the prevalent type of work in the state in the early days.
