Airmont average annual precipitation is 50.4 inches per year. Return to Index History & History Related Items Airmont history: The area was first settled by the Tallman family in the late 1600's. By the 1820's, more people had arrived and were settling in. Route 59 was opened in 1828 and this furthered the area's growth. When the Piermont Branch Railroad came in 1841, many more people came into the area and more business could ship out and be successful. The name of Airmont was created by the wife of the local Lutheran church in 1890. The little community remained solid but small for many more years. When the Thomas E. Dewey Thruway and the Tappan Zee Bridge opened, many changes began. A vote was taken and the new village of Airmont was formed in 1991. Return to Index
