Green history: Prior to incorporation in 1991, Green was a township with a number of smaller hamlets, villages and communities. Part of the township became the village of Green. It later merged in with the township. One of the major reasons for incorporation was the interest in most of the citizens to maintain their independent school district rather than being annexed into Akron schools. Once part of Stark County, it has been in Summit county since 1840. Though there is a post office in Green, zip code 44232, this is for boxes only. The area of Green is served by five different post offices: Akron-44312, 44319, Canton-44720, Clinton-44216 and Uniontown-44685 Another unusual aspect of Green is it contracts with the Summit County Sheriff's Office for police service.
