History & History Related Items Pottstown history: Though Pottstown was incorporated on February 6, 1815, it was settled many years before then in 1701 when an iron forge operated close to the town's present site. John Potts organized the borough on land deeded to his father by William Penn. The area has always had a large iron and steel industry. In 1980, both Bethlehem Steel and Firestone, larger employers in the area, pulled out and send the borough into a short-lived tailspin. Since that time, new business has been attracted by two large industrial parks. The historic district of Pottstown is also a drawing card for visitors and tourists. Return to Index
