Fine Arts Program
Canton ISD is committed to fine arts education and to providing the resources necessary to build and maintain a program of excellence. Dedicated professionals in the areas of Band, Choir, Art, and Theater Arts augment this effort by instilling each student with talent and dedicated work ethics. Students interested in art are able to enroll in the district’s Advanced Placement Art Program. The Canton High School “Mighty Band from Eagle Land” has the distinction of being the first band in state history to hold both the 3A UIL State Marching Championship and the High School 3A Honor Band Award in the same year.
The CISD choir program is another avenue for student success. Two choir groups participated in UIL contests last year. The Boys Tenor Choir was awarded first place in UIL Concert and the CHS Chorale achieved a first place ranking in sight-reading. Theater The Canton ISD One-Act-Play ensemble placed second in the state in 2003. All areas of fine art students routinely advance to the state level of competition.
The district’s commitment to the fine arts program can be seen in the construction of a new performing arts center at Canton High School. This facility includes a new band hall, classrooms for theater arts, choir, and art, and a 1250 seat auditorium.
Canton ISD believes that lessons learned from commitment and competition will have a lasting and positive impact upon the lives of students. Students are able to participate and compete in football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, track, cross-country, tennis, and golf.
