History & History Related Items
First settled in 1846 by William Wills. Wills Points was founded in 1873 by General Grenville M. Dodge, an engineer, it was known as Iola. Later, when an application for a post office was made, the name was denied because there was already an Iola. The first settler of the area was William Wills and he lived where trees came to a point in a clearing, thus, the name chosen was Wills Point. The post office was established on September 23, 1870. On 21 July 1884, Wills Point became the first Van Zandt community to incorporate.
