The climate for San Antonio is modified subtropical climate. It is located on the edge of the Gulf Coastal Plains. Because of this, the weather is good. The humidity varies from an average of 80 percent in the early morning to an afternoon level of 50 percent. History & History Related Items San Antonio history: The early Payaya Indians of the area called this area Yanaguana which means The Clear Water. Spanish explorers in 1691 discovered the Payaya Indian camp on a gentle river and named the site San Antonio. San Antonio was christened by Franciscan Father Damien Massanet on June 13, 1691; for the Indian village site and the river. He christened the name for the Feast Day of Saint Anthony of Padova, Italy (who is still entombed in a magnificent Basilica built for him in Padova).In 1718, Mission San Antonio de Valero was established. In 1836, that Mission, known better as "the Alamo", was the scene of a battle that inspired Texans to freedom. Now, San Antonio is the ninth-largest American city, urbane and cosmopolitan.
