The climate for Beckley is seasonal. See the beautiful fall colors here in late September to the end of October with the best viewing during the first two weeks of October. History & History Related Items Beckley history: Raleigh County was proposed in 1850 by General Alfred Beckley. It was to be named in honor of Sir Walter Raleigh. Alfred Beckley served as the first clerk of the Circuit Court of the county. His home, Wildwood House, is preserved as a museum honoring his contributions to both Beckley and to the county of Raleigh. Beckley became a center for commerce and culture during the heyday of the coal mine in the early 1900's. It continues to do so today. It is also the county seat for Raleigh County.
