Information &
Facts about Raleigh County, West Virginia
History:
Raleigh County was proposed in 1850 by General Alfred Beckley.
It was to be named in honor of Sir Walter Raleigh. Alfred Beckley
served as the first clerk of the Circuit Court of the county.
His home, Wildwood House, is preserved as a museum honoring his
contributions to both Beckley and to the county of Raleigh.

Take a 35 minute riding tour conducted by real coal miners. Designated
as a national historic site. Visit the gift shop and snack bar.
