Facts about Monroe County, West Virginia
History:
Monroe County was created on 14 January 1799 as a county in Virginia.
It became Monroe County, West Virginia on 20 June 1863. The only
county in the state which sends its waters to both the Atlantic
Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. It is also known for its fine beef
and dairy herds. Union is the county seat.
