settled in 1901, Garland was named for John Garland, a local forest ranger. The community began, along with Frannie and Deaver, when the Burlington Railroad expanded into the Big Horn Basin. Garland was a major rail center for the basin having many businesses, bank, newspapers and other important businesses.
