Park County is located in the northwest corner of Wyoming. A portion of Yellowstone National Park is in the county. Neighboring counties to Park County are: Big Horn, Washakie, Hot Springs, Fremont and Teton. To the north in Montana, they are Carbon, Park and Gallatin. To the west in Idaho are Teton and Fremont.

The county was created on 15 Feb 1909. The courthouse in Cody was finished in 1912.
The county had some adjustments in boundaries early on, but has basically maintained the same boundaries since 1931.
