History & History Related Items

Lake Elsinore history:

The first choice for a name for this community was Laguna, but it was already taken. In 1883, they settled for Elsinore, liking the sound of the Shakespearean setting. The "lake" wasn't added to the city's name until 1972.

The lake was dry in the 1930s, but was re-filled during the early 1960s. A massive flood occurred in 1980 where many homes were flooded. Since then, an expansive project has helped to maintain the water levels of the lake.
