Rancho Palos Verdes is the youngest city on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, incorporated on September 7, 1973.

Incorporated in 1973, Rancho Palos Verdes is the newest city on the peninsula. It is also the largest with nearly 41,000 residents. The city features 7.5 squares miles of coastline with many coves, cliffs and beaches. It is mainly a residential community with both single family homes as well as multiple family dwellings.

Point Vicente Lighthouse
This lighthouse, built in 1926,. is operated by the US Coast Guard. The legend associated with the lighthouse is of a mysterious woman in white who was said to have committed suicide while waiting for her husband to return from an ocean voyage. She is supposed to still keep her vigil even now.

Rancho Palos Verdes Historical Events
1987
Marineland, the once famous aquatic park, was located in Rancho PalosVerdes. It was torn down in 1987. The site is now prepared for housing, hotel and resort use. A number of films were also shot at this location.

Palos Verdes is the Spanish name for the Indian term "green trees."
The Palos Verdes Peninsula takes in a 26.3 square mile area. There are no hotels, motels, hospitals or major industries on the Peninsula.
